Henrik olsen

Throughout my career I’ve practiced product, brand, and marketing design, serving in creative leadership positions as well as working hands-on as a designer. From my years of leading design teams at large enterprises and mid-size agencies, I have acquired expertise in healthcare, ad tech, finance, arts & education, and ecommerce. 

In as much as I enjoy the craft of making beautiful things, it is the collaborative process of a design team that brings me inspiration. And it is with this inspiration, I look forward to continuously innovating and making beautifully useful experiences.


EXPERIENCE

Elevance Health  |  Director of UI + UX  |  2019 - present
Lead designer on AI-enabled enterprise and consumer healthcare tools. Additionally, I’ve led the design of the large-scale Digital Platform UI kit. All efforts are focused on bringing advanced generative AI capabilities to Elevance associates, healthcare providers, and our 48 million members.

HealthTap  |  Head of Design  |  UI + UX + Marketing Design  |  2018 - 2019
I led the six-person product and marketing design team at the primary healthcare start-up. In marketing, I set the brand vision and overall expression, as well as led the implementation across digital and print media. In product design, I set in place the principles and processes that revamped the consumer app UI to become significantly more intuitive and engaging.

Autodesk  |  Creative Director  |  UI Designer  |  2017 - 2018
Providing both creative direction and hands-on UI design, I led the creation of the web apps UI design system. By managing a small team, rallying the community, and gaining executive level support, I’ve driven the birth, growth, and adoption of the increasingly successful design system.

CircleUp  |  Design Lead  |  Product Designer  |  2016 - 2017
As a lead product designer in the financial technology start-up CircleUp, I helped design an entirely new marketplace for institutional investors to discover quality early stage CPG companies. Additionally, I redesigned site navigation systems, interaction patterns, and an ongoing library of core UI elements.

Facebook  |  Business Marketing Design Lead  |  UI Designer  |  2013 - 2016
I led the ‘Digital & Brand Design’ practice within the Global Business Marketing team at Facebook. As the lead designer on the ‘Facebook for Business’ site, I designed both new personalization features as well as set a vision for the full overhaul of the site. I designed highly successful identities for Facebook's ad tech company 'Atlas', the ‘Boost Your Business’ event series, and ‘Fuel’ initiatives. Additionally, I created online marketing campaigns launching the Blueprint advertiser education program.
As a Product Designer, I designed ad platform interfaces that enable both sophisticated and novice advertisers to achieve their sales and marketing goals.

Hot Studio  |  Creative Director  |  2002 - 2013
As a member of the Hot’s leadership team, I provided creative direction, inspiration and structure for the 16 member ‘brand experience’ team. As the company grew to annual billings of $18M, I served as an industry leader through writing, teaching, and speaking at events. My role included business development, hiring, setting approach, and growing core accounts. Accounts included Nike, SFMOMA, Salesforce.com, UCSF, Cisco WebEx, and Ooyala. (Hot Studio was acquired by Facebook in early 2013.)

AIGA SF  |  Board Member, Interactive Chair  |  2010 - 2013
I was the advocate to increase the focus of the SF chapter on interactive design. I created the highly successful ‘Interactive Chats’ lecture series, as well as served as Creative Director for the biannual ‘Compost Modern’ sustainability conference.

Academy of Art University  |  Brand Identity Instructor   |  2005 - 2006
I taught brand identity to seniors in the undergraduate graphic design program. The course included lecture and studio work with the goal of creating full corporate identity systems.

Sapient  |  Creative Director  |  1999 - 2002
I designed, and led team efforts, on a diverse set of large scale websites and branding systems. My core clients included companies such as Marriott, HP, Walmart.com, Siemens USA, and Springstreet. Additionally, I contributed to new business development efforts and overall design practice leadership.

Studio Archetype  |  Design Director  |  1996 - 1999
I designed corporate and e-commerce web sites, packaging and identity systems. Additionally, I directed multidisciplinary teams from project definition thru full implementation.

Landor Associates  |  Designer  |  1994 - 1996
I designed corporate identity and consumer packaging systems. Upon introduction to the web, I created first generation web sites. Clients: Visa, Lucent, Gatorade, FedEx, Xerox, UBS, and Apple.
